Sand abstraction is a new technology which draws water from the river bed. The technology is ideal for livelihood gardens More water points need rehabilitation. 50 more water points are going to be rehabilitated during the extension period since the budget line has not been exhausted. If money remains by end of project, back spares will be purchased for the local council to operate a spares bank We decided to reduce on the number of pump minders to be trained. It was learnt that newly trained pump minder without experience were dropping pipes during pump repair

Comments All activities were carried out by end of September 2009 Same of the rehabilitated water points need apron and waste water run away channel repair ( provinces did not consider requesting cement for the construction of apron and waste water run away channel) this was due to lack of knowledge among the field officers. There is need to train field officers on WatSan issues It has been learnt that there are materials left over at the IFRC ware house. If a budget can be made available these materials can be used for perfection of the rehabilitated water points.
